SemperCycle

The name SemperCycle is derived from the Latin word semper, meaning “always” or “forever,” combined with “cycle” to reflect our commitment to enabling a circular economy and creating lasting value from plastic resources.

Our story

SemperCycle background and history

Plastic is an essential material, yet millions of tonnes of mixed and contaminated plastic waste remain difficult to recycle. At the same time, industries are searching for sustainable alternatives to fossil-based feedstocks.

SemperCycle was founded to address both challenges. By converting hard-to-recycle plastic waste into syngas, then methanol and other valuable chemical feedstocks, we aim to create a circular pathway for materials that would otherwise be incinerated or landfilled.

2021-2022: SemperCycle is founded

  • Lab scale R&D, DTU Lyngby
  • Conceptual design study for commercial plant
  • Grant funding from EUDP secured
  • DTU and DTI established as partners
  • Footprint Firm and Chairman entered as equity investors

2023-2024: IP and further testing

  • First patent granted, five further are filed
  • Initial testing on feeding system
  • Further fluidization testing

2025-2026: Pilot plant and scale-up

  • Pilot plant commissioned at DTU Risø
  • Further R&D soft funding secured
  • Pilot Plant tests and operational experience
